BIOSCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND INNOVATION

DEAN GREETINGS

Since January 1 2025, Unika Atma Jaya has made a strategic decision to establish a new Faculty, that is, Fakultas Biosains, Teknologi, dan Inovasi (FBTI), or formally known in English as School of Bioscience, Technology and Innovation (SBTI), which integrates both Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Biotechnology. The faculty oversees ten study programs, such as S1 Mechanical Engineering, S1 Electrical Engineering, S1 Industrial Engineering, S1 Information Systems, S1 Biotechnology, S1 Food Technology, Professional Program for Engineers, Master of Mechanical Engineering, Master of Electrical Engineering, and Master of Biotechnology. Serving as the home base for FBTI is our Campus III BSD, the green campus in BSD City, equipped with 30 laboratories to support teaching and learning, research, and community service activities.

The integration reflects interdisciplinary collaboration and productive synergy, which can drive more innovation, enhance the quality of higher education and advance the knowledge of bioscience and technology at Unika Atma Jaya. This effort also serves as part of the strategic development plan in improving the quality of education to produce impactful high-quality graduates and to spearhead more innovations in bioscience, technology and engineering. Unika Atma Jaya has consistently demonstrated its commitment to provide high-quality education that is innovation-oriented and relevant to the global development, particularly in the areas of bioscience and technology.

Our faculty has demonstrated its commitment to excellence through its high-quality education; adequate practicum/laboratory facilities to support the teaching-learning, research and community service activities; other supporting infrastructure to enhance the teaching-learning process; and a large network with both domestic and international universities, companies, and thousands of alumni working across various sectors. All of these strengths have prepared FBTI to embrace the incoming Industrial Revolution 5.0.

The School of Bioscience, Technology, and Innovation at Unika Atma Jaya offers opportunities to explore knowledge and skills across various sectors:

    1. Smart innovation and digital advancements in robotics, green energy, advanced materials, and green sustainable manufacturing.
    2. IoT & AI for smart living (internet of things & artificial intelligence for smart living).
    3. Smart innovation and digital transformation in manufacturing, supply chain and service industries.
    4. Creative Digital Talent: Digital Innovation, Web & Mobile Application Development, Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, Intelligence System & Cyber-Physical Systems, Interactive computing: video game, augmented & virtual reality apps.
    5. Smart innovation and digital integration especially in biotechnology.
    6. Smart innovation and digital integration especially in food-technology.

The learning activities are conducted in two different campus locations, providing students with flexible campus location options, namely the BSD Campus in Sampora, Tangerang and the Semanggi Campus, Jakarta. Our BSD Campus hosts several programs, including S1 Mechanical Engineering, S1 Electrical Engineering, S1 Industrial Engineering, S1 Information Systems, S1 Biotechnology, S1 Food Technology, and Professional Program for Engineers. Meanwhile, our Semanggi Campus in Jakarta facilitates several programs, such as S1 Mechanical Engineering, S1 Electrical Engineering, S1 Industrial Engineering, S1 Information Systems, Professional Program for Engineers, Master of Mechanical Engineering, Master of Electrical Engineering, and Master of Biotechnology.

    ABOUT THE FACULTY

The Faculty of Biosciences, Technology, and Innovation (FBTI) of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia was officially established on January 1, 2025, through the merger of the Faculty of Engineering, which was founded on July 1, 1961, and the Faculty of Technobiology, which was established on April 3, 2002.

At the undergraduate level, the first study program established in 1961 was Mechanical Engineering, followed by the establishment of the Electrical Engineering Study Program in 1979. Subsequently, the Industrial Engineering Study Program was founded in 1999. In 2002, the Biology Study Program was established and later renamed the Biotechnology Study Program, becoming the first undergraduate Biotechnology Study Program in Indonesia. The Food Technology Study Program was established in 2014, followed by the establishment of the Information Systems Study Program in 2017. FBTI of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia also offers graduate programs, including the Master’s Programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biotechnology, as well as the Professional Engineer Program.

Since 2017, FBTI has conducted academic activities across two campuses. Campus I Semanggi accommodates the Master’s Programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biotechnology, the Professional Engineer Program, as well as the undergraduate programs in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. Campus 3 of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia in BSD is designated for all undergraduate programs, including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Biotechnology, Food Technology, and Information Systems.
