It’s good for you who are studying in universities especially with IT as the major. After learning from the lecturers, a lot of chances are provided to help you having great and precious experiences before graduating and dealing with the real IT Industry

 

Recently, the Information Technology vendors are seemed to be diligently promoting and looking for potential candidates in several universities. Various activities are held, starting from campus’ council election until establishing training center facilities.

 

For example, Microsoft as one of the most famous IT vendor, consistently inviting students to join. Some of their programs are: Imagine Cup (http://imaginecup.com). Microsoft Student Partner (https://microsoftstudentpartners.com), and Microsoft Students Ambassador. Late last year, Apple through e store started to aim at campuses, starting from Jogjakarta, Apple campus store are mentioned to be opened in Universitas Islam Indonesia (Islam University of Indonesia) in that city. Previously,  EMAX Apple Premium Reseller  and Education Partner have opened  its first myCampus Apple Authorized Campus Store in Faculty of Economy, University of Indonesia followed by ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology), Ama Jaya Jogjakarta and followed by Gadjah Mada University with its Apple Innovation Center.

 

Nokia and its Forum have cooperated with ITB in an event titled Mobile Inno Sphere Center. Through this program several materials for application development using development kit such as: WRT (WebRuntime) and Qt in Mobile Application Development subject are given to students from the Faculty of Electrical and Informatics Engineering, ITB in order to support them in developing innovations in the field of mobile devices which later could be commercialized. Meanwhile Opera and Microsystems initiative to hold Opera Campus Crew (http://www.opera.com/company/edu-cation/campuscrew/) and Sun Campus Ambassador to encourage the students spreading the information and knowledge about their products

 

TRAINING CENTER

 

Recently in March 3^rd 2011, another cooperation between IT vendors and universities were held in Jakarta. Schneider  Electric (http://www.schneider-electric.com.com) specialist in global energy management has established training center facilities in Faculty of Engineering, Electrical Engineering Department, Atma Jaya Catholic University. This cooperation was mentioned as the effort of the IT vendors to synergize with the education world in order to prepare the students to be ready. And it was reported that many of alumnus from this university work in Schneider Electric.

 

Riyanto Mahsan (Country President Schneider Electric Indonesia) said “We have collaborated with Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia since 2008, when we held Energy Efficiency Competition (competition for university students to develop their creative ideas related to energy efficiency). From there we were optimist to establish training center. This is a part of our plan to have more concrete cooperation, so a link and match between universities and industries will be available. Because the provided products are same with the products that are available in training center, the new graduated students are expected to be ready to work.”

 

Yes, the training center facilities in Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia applies the Industrial Automation that could be applied in several operational sectors such as: manufacturing and energy facilitation, with module training such as: Programmable Automation Control, Variable Speed Drive, Human Magelis Interface (HIM) and censor. The participants will receive a practice directly with the products and cases that generally occurred in a working environment. With this full package, the participants who graduate with the certificates will be ready to work in the real working field.

 

“With this cooperation, the competency of the graduate students of Electrical Engineering department, Faculty of Engineering will be adequate and competitive in industry considering the intense competition and the fast growing of technology outside.” Said Hadi Sutanto (Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Atma Jaya Catholic University)

 

Lecturers will also play a role as the trainers in this training center. Students from the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering are also welcomed, even companies which are willing to use the training center facilities.

 

 Mellisa Mulyadi (Head id Electrical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Atma Jaya Catholic University) said “The graduates will be certified by Schneider Electric. Of course there are some fares that are needed to be paid, but it will be affordable for university students.”

The first one is SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)-SCADA  is a system that monitors and controls the process, and the second one is PlantStruxture Certificates this covers a wide subjects such as the network and architecture also PLC and SCADA platform.
