FOUNDATION

THE MILESTONE
The Atma Jaya Foundation was formed by a group of young Catholic intellectuals on 1st June 1960 as a respond to the idea of establishing a catholic university in Indonesia, arised in a meeting of the bishops of Java held in Jakarta on 1st June 1952. The foundation then established Universitas Katolik Indonesia Atma Jaya (Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia). Those young Catholic intellectuals were:

OUR VISION
The vision of Atma Jaya Foundation is to realize an educational community, which lays emphasis on Christianity, excellence, professionalism, and concern for human dignity and social welfare.


OUR MISSION
 1. To build the Atma Jaya community that has and values stronger faith, true brotherhood, and culture of love;
 2. To develop the Atma Jaya community as a national cadre that boasts excellence, integrity, critical mind, and a lifelong learning spirit;
 3. To implement leadership and management in a transparent, accountable, responsible, independent, and equitable manner;
 4. To enhance the realization of human dignity and social welfare by developing an attitude that values compassion, solidarity, plurality, and preferential option for the underprivileged.


  1. The dove, the cross, and the aureole are white in colour, representing sincere and holy missions. The dove in the aureole emitting seven light beams symbolizes the Holy Spirit.
  2. Each of the seven light beams represents the blessing of mind, wisdom, science, the Word of God, love, power, and faithfulness to God.
  3. The ATMA JAYA logo shield is green in colour, representing Indonesia, the Emerald of the Equator.
  4. The shield of the national emblem of Indonesia (Garuda Pancasila) depicts the national commitments.
  5. The cross symbolizes Catholicism.
  6. The letters forming the name “ATMA JAYA”, the inner circle space, the circumference of the aureole as well as the emitted light beams, and the frame of the shield are orange in colour, representing the spirit radiating excellent works of dedication.

Concern for human dignity and social welfare is the basic orientation towards the realization of Christian values.
PROFESSIONAL
The practice or approach of performing tasks by prioritizing reliable governance principles (transparent, accountable, responsible, independent, and fair) to ensure quality.
EXCELLENT
The drive to continuously develop oneself through lifelong learning and critical thinking so as to become an excellent and leading institution in the scientific field.
CHRISTIAN
The Catholic faith, which is strongly manifested in faith, a culture of true love and brotherhood is the basis of the entire process.
