Overview

Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL) is the national public university of Timor-Leste, located primarily in Dili, the capital city. Established formally in 2000 following the nation’s independence, it has roots in earlier higher education efforts and has grown into the country’s leading institution of tertiary education, research, and community service. UNTL plays a central role in building Timor-Leste’s human capital by offering a wide range of academic programs designed to respond to national development needs while fostering cultural identity, scientific research, and international cooperation. 


As the largest university in the country, UNTL operates multiple campuses and faculties covering disciplines from agriculture, engineering, and sciences to law, social sciences, education, and health sciences. Academic Calendars

The academic year at Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e is divided into two semesters:

Spring Semester:

  1. Nomination and Application Deadline: October - December

  2. Semester Start: Early March

  3. Semester End: Late June - Early July

Fall Semester:

  1. Nomination and Application Deadline: April - June

  2. Semester Start: Early September

  3. Semester End: Late December - Early January

Orientation for international students is conducted a week before each semester, covering essential topics such as course registration, cultural adaptation, and campus facilities.
