Jakarta, 1 July - 22 August 2025 – Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (AJCUI) proudly hosted the Opening Ceremony for Medical Students of Universidade Católica Timorense São João Paulo II (UCT) Summer Semester at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK), Pluit Campus. The event marked another milestone in the growing academic partnership between Indonesia and Timor-Leste, highlighting shared commitment to education, healthcare, and cross-border collaboration. The ceremony, attended by distinguished guests including H.E. Mr. Roberto Sarmento de Oliveira Soares, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, brought together leaders and representatives from both institutions. Warm welcomes were delivered by Dr. dr. Felicia Kurniawan, M.Kes (Dean of FKIK AJCUI), Prof. Dr. dr. Yuda Turana, Sp.S(K) (Rector of AJCUI), Prof. João Câncio Freitas, Ph.D (Vice Rector of UCT, Faculty of Medical Sciences), and DR. Joel Casmiro Pinto (Rector of UCT).
Over nearly two months, the UCT students participated in academic sessions, hands-on learning experiences, and cross-cultural activities designed to broaden their perspectives and strengthen their medical expertise. This collaboration not only supported the students’ academic development but also deepened ties between the two institutions, reinforcing AJCUI’s commitment to fostering cross-border educational partnerships. The program concluded with a Closing Ceremony on 22 August 2025, celebrating the students’ achievements and the success of this inaugural summer program. While the ceremony itself marked the end of this chapter, it also highlighted the shared vision of both institutions to continue nurturing future medical professionals who are prepared to make a positive impact in their communities.
