Jakarta, May 20, 2025 – In recognition of the growing partnership between Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (AJCUI) and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, AJCUI was invited by the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Jakarta to commemorate the 23rd Anniversary of the Restoration of the Independence Day of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and 23rd Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Timor-Leste and Indonesia. The celebration took place on Tuesday, 20th May 2025, at Hotel Raffles, Jakarta. The event was also attended by attended by High-Level Members of the Indonesian Government, UN Specialized Agencies, international organizations, Religious Figures, Civil Society and Academics, Diplomats and Attachés of the Embassy of Timor-Leste, the Mission of Timor-Leste to ASEAN, and many important figures. The opening remark was delivered by Deputy Minister for the Protection of Migrant Workers, Christina Aryani, who graduated cum laude from the Faculty of Law Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia.
The invitation signifies more than a diplomatic gesture—it represents the strong and evolving partnership between AJCUI and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. Over the years, AJCUI has become an academic home for a growing number of Timorese students who are recipients of scholarships, allowing them to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate studies in a supportive and diverse learning environment. Through joint efforts in scholarship, dialogue, and people-to-people connections, AJCUI continues to expand its role as a hub for ASEAN-wide and Lusophone internationalization efforts, fostering a campus environment that values diversity and global thinking.
