Overview

Founded in 1971, Hasselt University (Dutch: Universiteit Hasselt or UHasselt) is a public research university located in Hasselt and Diepenbeek, Belgium. Formerly known as the Limburg Universitair Centrum and renamed Hasselt University in 2005, it has grown into a modern institution known for combining high-quality education with innovative research. With around 8,000+ students, the university operates several faculties and research institutes focusing on areas such as life sciences, engineering, business economics, law, and transportation sciences, and is ranked among the top young universities in Europe. 

UHasselt places strong emphasis on research-led teaching, small-group learning, and internationalization. It fosters close interaction between students and faculty while offering access to a multilingual and multicultural academic environment within the heart of Europe’s educational landscape.

The academic year at UHasselt is divided into two semesters:

Spring Semester:

Fall Semester:

2. Semester Start: Early September

3. Semester End: Late December - Early January

Orientation for international students is conducted a week before each semester, covering essential topics such as course registration, cultural adaptation, and campus facilities.
