Jakarta, 12 December 2025 — Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (AJCUI) once again celebrated cultural diversity through its annual event “Christmas Around the World,” this year highlighting the rich and meaningful Christmas traditions of Mexico. Held at the Hall of Karol Wojtyla Building, Semanggi Campus, the event invited students and the academic community to experience how Christmas is celebrated beyond borders, through stories, traditions, and shared cultural values. The program featured a special session titled “Understanding Christmas Culture in Mexico through Wayang,” which offered a unique blend of storytelling and cultural exchange. Participants learned how Christmas in Mexico reflects themes of family, generosity, faith, and joy, expressed through traditions such as festive decorations, communal celebrations, and symbolic performances. The use of wayang as a medium added an engaging local touch, making the cross-cultural learning experience more relatable and immersive.
Beyond the cultural presentation, the event also served as a space for interaction and reflection. Attendees were invited to share experiences, ask questions, and explore how Christmas traditions—though different in form—often carry similar meanings across cultures. The session emphasized that Christmas is not only a celebration, but also a reminder of compassion, togetherness, and appreciation for diversity. Through Christmas Around the World, AJCUI continues its commitment to fostering intercultural understanding and global awareness within the university community. By creating opportunities to learn directly from different cultures, the event encouraged participants to carry the spirit of Christmas—love, generosity, and joy—into everyday life, long after the celebrations have ended.
