Our campus has made another ground-breaking step in international scope. Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (AJCUI) established excellent educational quality, equivalent to top-notch universities in Japan such as Toyo University, Kansai University, and Chou University. On November 8th 2022, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia was ranked 71st out of 133 in ASEAN region and 451 out of 760 in Asia region on World University Rankings 2023 released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

About the QS Rankings

QS World University Rankings is a yearly benchmarking held by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) who compiles data from every university in the world and ranks each one of the universities.  The purpose of this notable ranking is to build prestige, credibility, and points of evaluation for educational institutions in different categories. There are three different categories in the QS ranking system: the global overall ranking, the subject ranking, and regional ranking.

This year, AJCUI was ranked in both Top 500 in Asia region and top 100 in ASEAN region. AJCUI was placed at 451st out of 760 universities in Asia. Many top international universities were grouped into this category including the universities in Japan and Korea. In ASEAN region, AJCUI was given the spot at 71, ranked above King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok, Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST), and Udayana University.

From the data of each ranking, we can see the quality of education in AJCUI is internationally acknowledged to be equivalent, if not more advanced than the grade A universities in Asia including: Kansai University (Japan), Dongseo University (Korea), and University of Taipei (Taiwan). AJCUI obtains higher scores in some of the indicators that some international universities lack, which means AJCUI provides similar amenities as other distinguished international institutions.

The indicators

In the ranking system, QS counted these few indicators to reveal the ranks of each institution. There are academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty student ratio, papers per faculty, citations per paper, international faculty, international students, faculty staff with PhD, international research network, inbound exchange, outbound exchange. Based on the data published, AJCUI receives the highest in inbound exchange with a score of 93% and outbound exchange about 60%. Compared to Kansai University who are placed just after AJCUI, Kansai University only got less than 20% in both indicators. It goes without saying that AJCUI provides interesting programs and active connections with a lot of international institutions.

It goes along with the remark made by QS Senior Vice-President, Ben Sowter during the 2022 World University Rankings event, saying educational institutions in Indonesia have to provide students in many ways to get their students to achieve their full potential. With these accolades, AJCUI has proven its commitment in striving to provide top of the line  services to bring forward the insights from QS to its fruition.

Overall, Atma Jaca Catholic University has once again excelled internationally. Showing that our AJCUI family has grown so much internally: hosting intriguing programs for everyone to join, supporting students and employees in internal and external competitions; and of course externally with countless international associates.
