DIGITAL METHODS: A SHORT TRAINING
Introduction
Social media platforms are now inseparable part of our everyday lives, private and public lives. It changes the way we communicate, the way we interact, and how we embrace democracy in this country. On the other hand, it poses both threats and benefits to the mainstream mass media. Investigating social media and its consequences becomes mandatory. This program is an exploratory research training on social media. The goal of the training is to discuss, analyze, and apply strategies in analyzing social media both from journalistic and political communication perspectives. At first, the lecture will discuss what social media are from a research design perspective. To understand social media, communication science theories are applied such as agenda setting, network theory to illustrate social media research. So, theoretical comprehension of the nature of social media and its genealogy in terms of scientific research is revealed. Afterwards, there will be a hands on analysis on social media data.
