A Night to Remember: Korean Edition

Yum.. yum! Korean dinner is ready! Who wants to join?

 

It was actually an unplanned day, well, just for me actually. So I was chilling in the International Office when suddenly my German friends, Jenny and Jana came. I opened a conversation with them and in the middle of the conversation, Jenny invited me to her small “party”. Jenny said that she and other international students were going to have a dinner in Kogikogi restaurant, a Korean restaurant recommended by Gwon (we usually called him Oppa). Jenny said that she missed eating Korean cuisine so she asked Oppa to give us a recommendation of a good Korean restaurant. Oppa said that we should try Kogikogi as he often visited it with his cousins.

At first, I refused to go because I had so many assignments to do at home, but …

So, ten of us: me, Jenny, Jana, Yusuke, Premesha, Seyeon, Alex, Dohee, Kang Zhi, and Ayaka gathered in the International Office at 6 p.m, then we started to walk to the restaurant. Well, yes, we walked. I have suggested taking the public transportation but since none of us knew exactly where the restaurant was (so we thought that it was somewhere near Atma Jaya), we thought that it was better for us to go on our feet. Seyeon led us with her phone connected to the GPS on her hand. 15 minutes, 30 minutes, we still have not arrived there yet! It was a tough, long, and tiring journey. We crossed the street full of cars and vehicles (it was in the rush hour at that moment), we walked continuously on the sidewalk but still we have not arrived there … yet. Yusuke kept complaining because he felt tired, he said “There are warung everywhere. Why don’t we just stop walking and eat in the warung? Oh, Seeyeon, is your phone new? Does the GPS work?” It was so funny to hear Yusuke kept complaining during the walk.

One hour had passed and we finally arrived in the Kogikogi restaurant! Finally!

Oppa had arrived there before us. He was smiling, could not wait to eat. As soon as we sat down, we ordered the food listed on the menu. We ordered Soju, beers, 2 Moksal, and 10 Samgyeopsal. Yes. TEN. We were THAT hungry.

We ate and drank, we laughed we told stories. Oppa, Seeyeon, and Dohee told us about the Korean culture about eating and we tried our best to be “Koreans” during the feast.

Night was getting late. We said goodbye to each other and went back home.

What a night to remember.
