VISITATION TO UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS MANILA NOVEMBER 14, 2013

COLLEGE OF COMMERCE AND BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

We arrived at UST and were met with Mr. Crescencio M. Doma Jr., Faculty Secretary for the Faculty of Arts and Letters.  He was the one who arranged the meeting for us between the Dean of Commerce and Business Administration, as well as the Dean of the Hotel and Tourism Management.

Our first session was with the Dean of Commerce and Business Administration, Ms. Mary Hildence M. Baluyot, M.Sc. and her College Secretary, Maureen H. Gelle as well as the Coordinator of Marketing Management.  They gave presentation on their college.  They explained that they have 5 departments under their faculty. Four of the departments: Business Economics, Financial Management,  Human Resource Management and Marketing Management, were under the Business Administration, and the Entrepreneurship Department was on its own.

Each department has its own independent curriculum since they realized that each of them has its own uniqueness.  The reason was that each department has its own goals such as accreditation, certification, etc.  For example the Financial Management has a certified finance.  The interesting part was in the Entrepreneurship Department, in order for the students to graduate they must established a running business enterprise.

The same problem that we encountered in Mirriam College was encountered here as well, which was the start of the semester was different.  But they were planning to change the starting time as the northern hemisphere.  They were asking for the MOU draft and also the activities that we were offering and tuition fee if it was not 100% scholarship exchange.

COLLEGE OF HOTEL AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT

After finishing the meeting with the CCBA, we were taken by Mr. Doma and  Ms. Grace to HTMC, which was in another building.  There, we were introduced to the Dean, Ms. Maria Cecilia A. Tio Cuison, as well as her two department heads, Ms. Evangelin E. Timbang, the Head of the  Hotel and Restaurant  and  Mr. Fredeswindo R. Medina, the Head of the Travel Management.  Our meeting was in the dining room, where lunch was prepared by the students from the Banquet and Catering Management.

During our lunch they explained that they have already establi  shed a student exchange with Koreans school, where they paid a tuition fee of 54,000 pesos.  The HTMC has 1800 student body.  The students have theories as well as lab practice.  Most of their subjects were 4 units, where two of the units were lab practice (1 units equals to 3 hours of lab practice). We were also met with Dr. Sison, the Head of the International Office.  She offered ideas of collaboration such as joined seminars and joined research.  She also tried to find the MOU between the two universities but it could not be found.  The last MOU was in the 1990s.  So she planned to revive the MOU by making a draft with activities attached and sent it to us later. And we will also sent a draft with the activities that we would offer to her as well as the two deans.

After lunch, we were given the tour of the HTMC by Ms. Evangelin E. Timbang, the Head of the  Hotel and Restaurant.  They have 2 computer labs, one language lab, two kitchen as lab, one cafeteria, two coffee shops and one running hotel with 6 bedrooms for vip guests.  Another building that was in process would contain 12 rooms as well as a fine dining restaurant (AtiCahayani dan Astuti Kusumawicitra)
