VISITATION TO MIRIAM COLLEGE KATIPUNAN, METRO MANILA NOVEMBER 13, 2013

11/25/2013 00:00:00

On our first day in Manila, the Philippines, we visited Miriam College at Katipunan, Metro Manila.  We arrived there around 9 o’clock in the morning and were brought to the conference room where we were met by Ma. Luisa Villano, Head of the Institutional Programs and Partnerships Office.  She introduced us to Ruby F Aiminar-Mutya, DBA, Chairperson of the Department of Leisure and Tourism Management.  We talked about the students exchange and decided to make a more comprehensive proposal including the courses and fees for the students who will be staying for one semester as well as deciding on the right time that would benefits both parties.  This was very critical since the starting semester for both universities were different.   There were two options that we talked about, a compressed short semester or a regular semester that ends in November and the final test/projects would be sent through email.

Not long after that, the Dean of the College of Business, Entrepreneurship and Accountancy joined us and talked about the “10 Days student Tour” which would be commenced around the month of April or May and equivalent to 3 units/sks where there should exist:

  1. Immersion study
  2. Company visitation
  3. Interaction with students (competition or discussion)
  4. Joint research between students
  5. Sightseeing

The topics should be on tourism and entrepreneurship. This program would also be applicable to our students.

On February, the Dean might visit Atma Jaya to finalize the program as well as joining the workshop.  He requested a proposal as well, that included the fees of the accommodation and airfare.  While the students joined this program, the lecturers would present their papers/researches in classes (teaser for our students about the Philippines). The Dean informed us as well that there was no need to sign an MOA since there already exist an MOU between our two universities.  In the end of our meeting, the President came to greet us for a short time since her schedule was tight.

Another factor that we talked about is the courses that each of the Department have and will sent to them so they can choose which courses they want to take for international classes (in the case of the Department of Business Administration an array of international classes were already decided).

We ended the meeting with a tour around campus guided by one of a young faculty member from the Leisure and Tourism Management Department and accompanied by Ms. Ruby F Aiminar-Mutya, DBA, the Chairperson of the Department of Leisure and Tourism Management.  (Ati Cahayani dan Astuti Kusumawicitra)
