The Release of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia Student Delegations Recipients of IISMA 2022 Scholarship

Getting a scholarship to another university abroad might be one of the best chance students can get to hone their skills, expanding their connection, and getting a whole new experience while studying abroad. But, not only they represent themselves as a person, they also carrying the name of their original institution - Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (AJCUI), and carrying the name of their country - Indonesia. Such opportunity and responsibility will be held by students of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia who are selected in IISMA 2022. IISMA, or known as Indonesian International Study Mobility Award, is a scholarship program from the government for college students to experience studying at top universities abroad for a period of one semester. Before the students go on their way to each universities they got, AJCUI held a meeting with the students to officially release them for IISMA 2022, which was held on Friday, August 19, 2022.

 

 

The meeting began with introduction from Ignatius Reyner Giovanni, S.T as the moderator of the meeting. After that, the national anthem was played followed by Mars of AJCUI. Then, the meeting was opened with a speech by Dr. Yohanes Eko Adi Prasetyanto, S.Si. as Vice Rector for Research and Collaborations. He believed that such day as the meeting day is a happy day, because AJCUI can release 14 AJCUI‘s students who will join IISMA program to different countries. "For you guys who participates in IISMA. Surely this will be a valuable experience for you, because you will be able to make a new international connection; while also can connect with many new friends from countries abroad which one day it will be useful for your future." He also mentioned that experiencing new culture will hone and built capabilities and survival capabilities of students.

 

 

There was also speech from Dr. Agustinus Prasetyantoko as the Rector of AJCUI. He said that the students made university proud for applying the scholarship until getting released in the meeting. "If you ask ‘can we go to many places there?‘, the answer is ‘you should.’ The reason is because you have a chance to go abroad," Dr. A. Prasetyantoko said. He also said "There‘s a proverb in Latin, translated into Indonesia, that said ‘Not for grade or credit did you go to school or learning, but to live.’ You are given a chance to learn from this life, from your experience living in a new culture. Of course you will also get new knowledge that you might not get here, because the lecturer, the teacher that will teach you there are from top tier university that was chosen carefully by government." To end his speech, Dr. A. Prasetyantoko said a saying "Our energy will come if we have imagination. Or if we turn it around, our imagination will draw our energy out. If you have no imagination, the energy won‘t come out. This scholarship is a chance for you to build your imagination, living abroad and following academic and social of other country."

 

 

After the speech from Rector, one of the students, Madeleine Nathania, got a chance as the representatitve of 14 student delegations to talk about her journey until she got accepted in IISMA and got a chance to learn for a semester in Boston University. "Personally, student exchange program was on my bucket list ever since I joined AJCUI family. The reason is because student exchange program is an opportunity for student to experience "life", either from aspect of academic, culture, and even non-academic aspect such as interpersonal ability," said Madeleiene. She believed that the awardee‘s preparation for IISMA can‘t be done in one night, but through continuous process from learning at class, organization activities, and many other activities. She also thank the universities for their help, support, trust, and the chance for scholarship. She ended her speech with a quote from Disney: "You must be imaginative, strong-hearted. You must try things that may not work, and you must not let anyone define your limit because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul."

 

 

Other than the speakers mentioned before and 14 students, there are also many other people attended the meeting; such as Dr. Yohanes Eko Widodo, S.H., S.Sos., M.M. as the Dean of Faculty of Business Administration and Communication; Dr. Irenius Dwinanto Bimo S.E., M.Si., as the Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business; Ronald Sukwadi, Ph.D. as the Dean Of Engineering Faculty; Dr. Luciana, M.Ed. as the Dean of Faculty of Education and Language; Dr. iur. Asmin Fransiska, S.H., LL.M. as the Dean of Faculty of Law; Dr. phil. Juliana Muriati, M. Si. as the Dean of Faculty of Psychology; and Adre Zaif Rachman, S.Hum. as the Head of International Office along with International Office‘s members.
