Title
LINGUISTIC CREATIVITY AND TRANSLANGUAGING IN
TRILINGUAL (INDONESIAN-ENGLISH-JAVANESE) POSTS ON VINCAYOO’S INSTAGRAM
ABSTRACT
This study investigates linguistic creativity
and translanguaging in Vincanyoo’s trilingual Indonesian–English–Javanese
Instagram videos. It aims to examine how translanguaging practices are
manifested through verbal and multimodal resources and how these practices
construct humour, linguistic creativity, and digital identity. This study
employed a qualitative research design using multimodal discourse analysis. The
data consisted of seven Instagram videos uploaded by Vincanyoo in 2025,
supported by interview data with the content creator. The verbal data included
spoken utterances in Indonesian, English, and Javanese, captions, hashtags, and
emojis, while the multimodal data included gestures, gaze, facial expressions,
body posture, costumes, props, settings, and digital framing. ELAN-assisted
transcription was used to organize the data into time-based analytical tiers,
allowing the analysis to connect spoken language with embodied and visual
resources. The findings show that Vincanyoo’s translanguaging practices are
manifested through Indonesian–English translanguaging, Indonesian–Javanese
translanguaging, persona-based translanguaging, lexical borrowing, cultural
translanguaging, prosodic exaggeration, and multimodal translanguaging.
Indonesian functions as an accessibility bridge for wider audiences, English
indexes modernity, coolness, elegance, and Westernized identity, while Javanese
indexes local intimacy, emotional intensity, domestic authority, cultural
authenticity, and humour. The study also reveals that humour and linguistic
creativity are constructed through contrastive personas such as Ibu Barat,
Ibu Jawa, Istri Barat, and Istri Jawa, supported by
gestures, costumes, props, gaze, facial expressions, and digital framing.
Therefore, this study concludes that Vincanyoo’s translanguaging is not simply
language mixing, but a creative, cultural, affective, and multimodal practice.
It contributes to translanguaging studies, digital sociolinguistics, and
multimodal discourse analysis by showing that regional languages such as
Javanese can function as central resources for humour, cultural pride, and
digital identity construction in Indonesian social media discourse.
