INTRODUCTION
Urbanization is a defining characteristic of the 21st century, with more than half of the global population now residing in cities, dramatically reshaped societies worldwide, bringing economic growth, technological advancements, and improved access to essential services. While urban environments offer economic opportunities, healthcare access, and social connectivity, they also present unique health challenges. The rapid expansion of cities, increasing population density, and environmental changes have contributed to a rise in chronic and lifestyle-related diseases, including geriatric health concerns, metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative conditions, mental well-being problem, and infection. These issues disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, leading to health disparities and a reduced quality of life for many urban residents. As cities continue to grow, there is an urgent need for comprehensive urban health strategies to promote well-being and sustainability.
The Atma Jaya International Symposium on Urban Health (AJISUH) brings together experts, practitioners, researchers, and stakeholders from diverse disciplines to share knowledge, best practices, and innovative strategies for enhancing the quality of life in urban environments. This symposium provides a platform for collaboration and dialogue, fostering partnerships across sectors to address the complexities of urban health. The online format ensures that participants from across the globe can engage meaningfully, regardless of location, thereby promoting global perspectives and inclusive participation.
By prioritizing the health and well-being of people in urban settings, the symposium contributes to the broader agenda of sustainable urban development and the realization of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). It is a call to action for all stakeholders to champion innovative, inclusive, and sustainable urban health strategies that improve the quality of life for urban populations worldwide.
