Biography

Prof. Irwanto earned his Bachelor's degree from Gadjah Mada University in 1983 and continued his master's and doctoral studies at Purdue University, completing his master's in 1990 and his Ph.D. in 1992. He specializes in Disabilities, HIV, Narcotics, as well as Sexual Orientation and Child Violence, contributing to research and policy for the protection of vulnerable individuals. As an educator, Prof. Irwanto teaches courses such as Child Abuse and Basic Psychology Ethics, as well as Research Design and Trauma & Recovery. His works, including "Guidelines for Psychosocial Support for People with HIV" and research on health stigma, demonstrate his dedication to supporting vulnerable groups. He also investigates the religious participation of individuals with disabilities and the quality of life of mothers with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, reflecting his commitment to enhancing understanding and support within society.

Teaching

As an educator, Prof. Irwanto teaches various courses related to psychology and mental health. In addition, he also teaches Basic Ethics in Psychology, Addiction Medicine, and Human in Psychology, helping students understand the ethical and practical aspects of psychology. Prof. Irwanto also teaches Socio-Cultural Approaches, Psychological Perspectives on Humans, Research Design, Mediation & Reconciliation Conflict Resolution, as well as Trauma & Recovery, providing students with research skills and knowledge about recovery from trauma.

 

Recent Publications

Prof. Irwanto, Ph.D., a prominent psychologist, has produced a variety of important works in 2020 focusing on mental health and social issues in Indonesia. One of his works, "Guidelines for Individual, Family, Group, and Community-Based Psychosocial Support for People Living with HIV in Indonesia," provides a comprehensive guide for delivering psychosocial support to individuals living with HIV, emphasizing the importance of inclusive and community-based approaches.

 

Additionally, Prof. Irwanto conducted in-depth qualitative research on health-related stigma in his work titled "Qualitative Exploration of Experiences and Consequences of Health-related Stigma among Indonesians with HIV, Leprosy, Schizophrenia, and Diabetes." In this study, he explored the experiences of individuals living with health-related stigma and the impacts they face, highlighting the challenges encountered by people with HIV, leprosy, schizophrenia, and diabetes.

 

Another of his works, "Religious Participation of Persons with Disabilities in Java, Indonesia: An Explorative Study," examines religious participation among individuals with disabilities in Java, providing insights into how social and cultural factors influence their involvement in religious activities. Prof. Irwanto also researched the quality of life of mothers with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in his study titled "The Quality of Life of Mothers Who Have Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder," which illustrates the challenges and needs faced by families with children requiring special needs. These works reflect Prof. Irwanto's commitment to enhancing understanding and support for vulnerable groups in society.
