June 1st, 2020 – There is a reason why the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (AJCUI) celebrates its anniversary on the same day as Pancasila Day. Founded on June 1st, 1960, Atma Jaya was meant to be the nation‘s spirit that concentrates on Pancasila as its base. On its 60th anniversary, that same spirit is unchanged, nor it fades away. Atma Jaya wants to edify its will to remain relevant and impactful.
On June 1st, 1945, Ir. Soekarno spoke about Pancasila, which cited Ernest Renan, a French philosopher, on "What is Nation?", saying that one of the conditions for a nation is their desire to live together. Pancasila is the foundation to live as one. The founding father of Atma Jaya realizes that the university‘s existence is for the nation‘s interest, and Pancasila is the reason for Indonesia as a nation. Thus, Atma Jaya, Indonesia, and Pancasila is a unified whole.
‘From Atma Jaya for Indonesia: Transformation of Superior People and Caring‘ is the theme of this XII Lustrum. For sixty years, AJCUI has presented the nation with thousands of its alumni, which has taken part in various sectors and for the public businesses; as a CEO on national or international companies, start-ups leaders, NGOs, or multilateral companies, or as a state government. It is a commitment to lead innovation in all living aspects. Atma Jaya promised to work on its best, so the graduates can be transformative leaders in various fields.
This year‘s Lustrum traversed in a challenging situation. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Atma Jaya is determined to continue to be relevant and impactful.
First,
launching the ‘Beasiswa UAJ Peduli Covid-19‘ scheme to provide financial aid for students affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The total scholarship budget is Rp 16 billion, adds up to the existing programs. The efforts carry on to help the students through fundraising programs with other parties.
Second,
committed to improving and maximized the online learning methods as the main service for students amid the pandemic. A lot to maintain even after the QS Five-star rating for the Online Learning category. It is only by some more preparation, AJCUI is ready to administer its 2020/2012 odd semester by implementing the blended learning methods.
Third,
commitment to innovating curriculum with various initiatives in each study program. The Covid-19 pandemic challenges the aspects of teaching and learning methods; even so, it also demands a change in the substance of teaching. An interdisciplinary approach, involving external partners through various certification programs, industrial cooperation, student exchanges with overseas partners, and various Kampus Merdeka initiatives will continue to develop. Although it still must consider learning outcomes and the expected characteristics of the graduates.
Fourth,
In the context of organizational transformation, ACUI committed to making developments, mainly qualified employee development and operational aspects. The recent position for Human Resource Director and Director of Operations on the Rectorate board expected to accelerate the transformation of the organization.
These commitments are our attempts to actualized the spirit of founders on presents days. In order to do so, we need excellent collaboration, coordination, and communication amongst stakeholders. Therefore, on this XII Lustrum, I would like to express my acknowledgment and highest appreciation for everyone who contributed to making Atma Jaya relevant and impactful. Let us unite our good intentions and work in the light of the Holy Spirit to continue to accomplish the founders’ ideals: "For God and Nation."
