Unika Atma Jaya Holds 21st Annual Linguistics Conference



Jakarta, 26 June 2023 – The Centre for Language and Culture Studies (PKBB), which is under the auspices of the Research and Community Service Institute of Universitas Katolik Indonesia (Unika) Atma Jaya, held the 21st Atma Jaya Annual Linguistic Conference (KOLITA).


The implementation of KOLITA 21 was carried out in a hybrid manner through Zoom Meetings and in-person meetings at the 14th & 15th floors of the Yustinus Building for three consecutive days, starting from 20-22 June, after previously being held online due to pandemic constraints.



Attended by more than 100 participants with different backgrounds with an interest in linguistics, KOLITA 21 also invited 1 plenary speaker and 4 guest speakers from various well-known universities to convey their research results and experiences, including Austin Kraft as Fulbright Researcher, USA; Prof. Dr. Setiono Sugiharto from Unika Atma Jaya; Juliana Wijaya, Ph.D. representative of the University of California, Los Angeles; Nurenzia Yannuar, Ph.D. from the State University of Malang; and David Wijaya, Ed.M., AFHEA, Ph.D representative from the University of Sydney.



In her speech on the first day of the conference, Tuesday (20/06), Yanti, Ph.D as the Coordinator of KOLITA 21 said that the organising committee also collaborated with a number of accredited national journals, ranging from SINTA 2 to SINTA 4 to accommodate the publication of research results from the presenters.


"Regarding publications, we hope that the presenters can respond to our communication so that the publication process can run smoothly," he added.



The Chairperson of the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) of Unika Atma Jaya, Dr. jur. Sih Yuliana Wahyuningtyas, S.H., M.Hum., in her speech continued the discussion about publications that had previously been delivered by Yanti.


The event, which has been held annually since 2002, is also in collaboration with the American Institute for Indonesian Studies (AIFIS), a non-profit organisation whose vision is to promote public education, cooperation, and research collaboration between Indonesia and America.


He hopes that through KOLITA 21, especially through the journals that will be published, more people will be inspired to conduct research and be able to understand existing ideas so that they can contribute to the development and development of the future.




At the conference, there were 75 titles of parallel papers consisting of various topics including linguistics and applied linguistics. The 75 parallel papers consist of various topics, both in the field of linguistics and applied linguistics, to then be published in the form of a journal after passing the selection stage by journal reviewers.


In line with one of the missions of PKBB Unika Atma Jaya to conduct research in the field of language and culture so that the products produced will become lamps and role models, KOLITA is the right forum to produce various research journals that are beneficial for the advancement of science.
