The Dark Side of Artificial Intelligence, From Moral Bias to Personal Data Security

Jakarta, 5 April 2023 - The innovation of artificial intelligence (AI) computer systems has now brought many benefits to humans. However, like any other technology, there are also some things that we should be aware of when this innovation starts to be widely used.

Concerns that AI systems could be used for nefarious purposes continue to arise. AI technology could be misused to threaten the security of capital. From the possibility of controlling robots and making them carry out terrorist attacks, or creating automated weapons that can kill without human intervention, to hacking into security systems, scientists are starting to discuss it frequently.

Also, since AI technology is created and developed by humans, it is inevitable that there are moral biases that can bring about issues of gender, racial, or social and economic background discrimination.

Then, what can be done to ensure that AI technology can be used safely and ethically to achieve positive goals for humans? How should society and government respond and consider ethics in the development of artificial intelligence?

To review the weaknesses of the development of AI systems, we spoke to Atma Jaya Catholic University's Master Lecturer in Electrical Engineering, Lukas, who is also the Chairman of the Indonesia Artificial Intelligence Society (IAIS).
