Jakarta, 28 August 2023 – Jakarta International Dragon Boat Festival 2023 or commonly abbreviated as JIDBF is the 5th international dragon boat rowing championship, which this year was organized by PODSI (Indonesian Rowing Sports Association) DKI Jakarta and Bahtera Rowing Club. The rowing championship followed by 12 teams consisting of various countries was held on July 29, 2023 at Beach City International Stadium, Ancol, North Jakarta.
5 Unika Atma Jaya students who are members of the KMPA (Student Nature Lovers Community) Pelangi Student Organization, Faculty of Psychology, participated in the JIDBF championship and joined the Semaduc Team (Selokan Mataram Dayung Club). The five students are Nicholaus Mikael (FP19), Monica (FP20), Nicodemus Lodkartiko Janapriyo (FP20), Richard Aditya Purnama (FP21), and Marsen Neoris Soh (FP21).
For two months before the competition was held, around June-July, KMPA Pelangi and Semaduc Team, which totaled 20 people, routinely practiced rowing every Saturday at GOR Bahtera Ancol to prepare themselves to compete in the Mix Community category.
Monica, or Moteng as the team leader, said that it was the first time for her and her friends from KMPA Pelangi to participate in the dragon boat rowing competition. "It takes stamina and muscle strength to row. But as a mapala, we do a lot of sports and this is enough to help us keep up with the pace of the Semaduc Team," said Moteng, who is also a member of the 2022/2023 Pelangi KMPA management.
According to him, this competition requires good chemistry and teamwork because rowing a dragon boat is different from rowing a rubber boat in heavy current sports. In addition, the difficulty faced is the training time that collides with the organization's work program, so it requires good time management.
Even so, Moteng and the rest of the KMPA Pelangi team remained enthusiastic and actually felt happy because they had the opportunity to try new experiences, as well as learn many things from the Semaduc Team regarding teamwork and also about dragon boat rowing techniques.
As the saying goes, effort never betrays results. After going through the one on one preliminary round and making it to the semifinal round against 3 other teams with a fairly thin gap, the Unika Atma Jaya students and the Semaduc Team managed to get 2nd Place in the Mix Community category thanks to the compact collaboration between team members.

Moteng admitted that KMPA Pelangi itself will definitely participate and rejoin the Semaduc Team. "In the future, it will not rule out the possibility of other nature lovers students (mapala) within Unika Atma Jaya being interested in collaborating together in this competition next year," he added.
Moteng hopes that armed with the experience of competing this year, more and more Unika Atma Jaya students, both those who are members of KMPA Pelangi and those who are not, will participate in the dragon boat rowing competition next year and win the first place.
KMPA Pelangi is a student organization of the Faculty of Psychology, Unika Atma Jaya (FPUAJ) that will accommodate all exploration activities and love of nature for FPUAJ students.
In addition, KMPA Pelangi is also a forum for channeling aspirations, developing potential, and love for nature as a form of nature conservation and community service.
