Unika Atma Jaya Collaborates with SAIAC on Advocacy for Sustainable Satellite and Space Reforms
Jakarta, 9 August 2023 – Digital transformation is happening in all fields and impacting our daily lives. Adopting innovative digital technology certainly encourages us to be able to adapt to such rapid changes. To be able to carry out digital transformation quickly, satellites are needed as the backbone of the digital transformation process.
Seeing that the function of satellites is very important for the progress of the nation in digital transformation, the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia and Strategic ASEAN International Advocacy & Consultancy (SAIAC) signed a memorandum of understanding regarding Advocacy for Sustainable Satellite and Space Reform.
Unika Atma Jaya's involvement as an academic in advocating sustainable satellite and space reform is of particular concern to be able to bring goodness through research from the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM).
"With this collaboration, it is hoped that the research carried out can develop further and produce useful findings. The signing of this memorandum of understanding is a good start of cooperation with SAIAC," said Vice Rector for Research and Cooperation of Unika Atma Jaya, Dr. Yohanes Eko Adi Prasetyanto.
On this occasion, the Head of LPPM, Dr Sih Yuliana Wahyuningtyas, expressed the enthusiasm of the LPPM team to welcome collaboration with SAIAC. "The LPPM research group is conducting various researches related to sustainability. LPPM will continue to conduct research related to sustainability and not stop working for the progress of Indonesia."

SAIAC's activities focus on digital transformation and have received international support. SAIAC has also collaborated with other universities in Indonesia.

"Many are yet to realise the importance of satellite and understand its role in driving digital transformation. This encourages us to actively advocate for satellites," said SAIAC Founder & CEO, Shaanti Shamdasani.
"There is a need for a review of satellite-related policies and how they impact today. This is to see what is most needed to drive digital transformation," Shaanti added.
In line with Shaanti, Dr Yuliana revealed "it is very appropriate to conduct policy studies related to satellites and digital transformation. On the Unika Atma Jaya side, we will collaborate with other internal units in this case Public Policy to get a broader perspective."
Unika Atma Jaya is committed to continuing to develop research and community service that has an impact on sustainability. Cooperation with SAIAC opens up opportunities to contribute to driving Indonesia's digital transformation through research and exchange of ideas and views at FGDs attended by cross-sectors.
