Jakarta, March 7 2023 - International Communication Association
(ICA) Indonesia Chapter was officially established at Atma Jaya Catholic
University of Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia, on Tuesday (7/3/23). Prof. Noshir
Contractor, the president of ICA, directly inaugurated the officials of ICA
Chapter Indonesia.
“In line with the principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, access (IDFA), ICA strives to improve the global
participation of countries particularly in the Southern nations, “Noshir
explained while giving his opening remarks offline.
Noshir explained that as of 2023, ICA had begun ICA regional chapters.
ICA Chapters was founded flexibly as a response to the request and needs of the
local and regional communities.
ICA is a highly reputable communication academic organization founded in
1950. In 1969, ICA only had 150 members from 28 countries. However, as of now,
ICA has had 6.800 members from 87 countries. The internationalization of ICA
outside the United States was first started in 2006 in Lima, Peru. Indonesia
once became the regional host of the conference in 2019 in Bali and then took a
role as the ICA Hub since 2020. One thing to be proud of is Indonesia is the
first chapter in the world.
“Indonesia has shown very active involvement in the ICA programs,” praised
Noshir. All the officials of ICA Indonesia Chapter come from various
universities across Indonesia, from North Sumatera to Papua, led by Prof.
Dorien Kartikawangi from Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia.
ICA Indonesia Chapter has played a significant role in the development
of Communication Studies in Indonesia because it has reached out to those
members who do not have an access to the ICA Headquarter.
The Rector of Unika Atma Jaya, Dr. Agustinus Prasetyantoko expressed his
sincere appreciation towards the initiatives to inaugurate the ICA Indonesia
Chapter.
“Communication Studies have experienced tremendous development with new
professors, and with ICA Indonesia Chapter, we can improve our international
recognition,” he said in his opening remarks.
The inauguration of ICA Indonesia Chapter was also followed by the
general lecture by Prof. Noshir Contractor with
the title "People Analytics: Using Digital Exhaust from the Web to
Leverage Network Insights in the Algorithmically Infused Workplace." More than
400 academicians enthusiastically attended the lecturer online.
Members of
ICA Indonesia Chapter will get more networking, learning and self-development
opportunities, and recognition from international communities.
By joining
ICA Indonesia Chapter, its members will be able to improve their skills and
share their knowledge and best practices in facing the current and future
challenges. Through ICA Indonesia Chapter, the members can leverage its
credibility and professional reputation as a member of an international
professional organization.
ICA
Indonesia Chapter will serve all areas of Indonesia, including Western, Central
and Eastern Indonesia, consisting of 38 provinces and 300 universities. Some of
the events planned in 2023 include international conferences, series of
lectures, and series of workshops.
The
membership fee is very affordable, that is, Rp120.000 (USD 8) for undergraduate
students, Rp240.000 (USD 16) for graduate students, Rp360.000 (USD 22) for
lecturers and individuals, Rp1.000.000 (USD 66) for institutional membership
for 3 people, and Rp500.000 (USD 33) for professionals.

Indonesia Chapter warmly invites all students, lecturers, practitioners and
policymakers in the discipline of communication to join ICA Indonesia to
support the development of communication studies and their real-life
application in Indonesia and to further elevate Indonesia to the global stage
regarding the best practices in communication.
