Ferdinan Okki Kurniawan, Ph.D.

Ferdinan Okki Kurniawan currently serves as the head of the master’s program in the Department of Applied English Linguistics at the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. He completed his Ph.D. in linguistics at Cornell University and M.A. in English linguistics at Eastern Michigan University. His linguistic interest is interdisciplinary as it combines several subfields of linguistics, such as phonetics, phonology, documentation/corpus study, language variation, language contact, and language change. He has received several research grants: Mario Eunadi research travel grant, Audrey Kahin research travel grant, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant, and James T. Siegel write-up grant. In addition, he was also a SAGE fellowship recipient. His current professional activities and services include being secretary for the Linguistic Society of Indonesia (2021-2023), journal reviewer for Oceanic Linguistics, NUSA, K@ata, and Linguistik Indonesia, and abstract reviewer for KIMLI and KOLITA. In industry, he assists some machine intelligence companies as a linguistic consultant in several artificial intelligence projects. As an Indonesian linguistics contributor, he also gives assistance to Brill’s linguistic bibliography annual publication.
