Larantuka,
February 27 2023 – Through its program “Goes to Nusa Tenggara
Timur: Searching for Future Leader”, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia
visited East Flores to search for future leaders by offering scholarships to up
to 50 students so that they can pursue their higher education.
As many
as 250 students from various senior high schools in the regions of Larantuka,
Waiwerang and Lewoleba, Monday (27/2), looked enthusiastic and kept raising
their hands to get the chance to answer questions posed by the lecturers from
Unika Atma Jaya. Their cheerfulness was apparent, with their faces radiating
excitement and showing smiles throughout the entire event.
The visit to Larantuka was planned for five consecutive dates until Friday,
March 3 2023, and it was intended to be a socialization of the academic
programs at Unika Atma Jaya and scholarship opportunities to pursue study at
Unika Atma Jaya. This event was also accompanied with a series of on-the-spot
tests in high schools across Larantuka, Waiwerang and Lewoleba.
The events, which were held from February 27 to March 3 2023, were attended by hundreds of East Flores youths. The event was opened by Bishop of Larantuka, Mgr. Fransiskus Kopong Kung, Pr., and representatives of the Board of Unika Atma Jaya, led by Dr. Irenius Dwinanto Bimo, the Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business.
Students from various Senior High Schools in Larantuka, Waiwerang and
Lewoleba attended the socialization of the academic programs at Unika Atma
Jaya.
The event
was symbolically opened with the striking of the gong, which was done by Mgr.
Fransiskus Kopong Kung, Pr., accompanied by all the representatives of the
Board of Unika Atma Jaya. The gong striking also served as a symbol of the
initiation of the event and the synergy between Unika Atma Jaya and Diocese of
Larantuka.
“Unika Atma Jaya
as a reputable campus with many strengths is now providing opportunities to the
youths of East Flores to be able to pursue their higher education. We are
always committed to contributing to the improvement of the human resources in
Indonesia,” said Irenius Dwinanto Bimo in his opening speech.
In the same
event, the Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business of Unika Atma Jaya also
noted that the cooperation will become the first stepping stone to the
partnerships with the Diocese in Eastern Indonesia. Besides that, the wide
range of scholarship programs were also shared with the students attending the
events, including SPP Discount Scholarship, fully funded scholarship, and many
other scholarship programs. It is hoped that this partnership can further
expand to other regions as well.
The opening ceremony with the gong striking by the Bishop of Larantuka
Mgr. Fransiskus Kopong Kung, Pr. as the symbol of the commencement of the
entire series of events of Unika Atma Jaya Roadshow to East Flores.
“Good quality of
life can only be achieved with good education. This partnership will surely be
developed constantly so that it can benefit the young generation in the eastern
region, notably Larantuka, Flores,” remarked Bishop of Larantuka, Mgr.
Fransiskus Kopong Kung, Pr.
Bishop of
Larantuka in his opening remarks also expressed hope that the partnership with
Unika Atma Jaya will continue regarding the provision of quality higher
education. The scholarship programs offered by Unika Atma Jaya are also noted
to benefit the Larantuka students tremendously as they get the access to better
education.
The event was
initiated by the Faculty of Economics and Business, attended by many Senior
High Schools in Larantuka, including SMA Fransiskus Asisi, SMAK St. Darius, SMAK Frateran Podor, dan
SMAN 1 Larantuka. The next event is planned to involve more high schools in the
regions of Waiwerang and Lewoleba.
One activity in the Unika Atma Jaya Roadshow to East Flores attended by
hundreds of SMA students.
Later, the scholarship grantees
can consider their interest and talent when choosing which major to pursue. And
as this program is designed specifically for the youngsters of East Flores, it
is hoped that they can return and contribute to the development of their town
of origin.
The partnership marks an
important step in promoting education in Indonesia. The values of Unika Atma
Jaya are hoped to contribute to the character building of the student
candidates from East Flores so that they can eventually become an individual
with competitiveness, professionalism and care.
