The baseline research for MAP started by applying for an ethical approval to the Ethics Commitee of Atma Jaya Jakarta by the research team. All the documents needed were prepared and submitted, including the research proposal, consent forms for all the research participants. The next step was the research design phase which included research procedures, research methodologies, research instruments, and participants criterium. This research design phase was worked together with Lembaga Perlindungan Anak (LPA) DKI Jaya province and Yayasan Anak Budaya Indonesia YABI (YABI). For this study, the research participants were grouped into 3 categories: foundations that will receive the benefits, artists or art groups, and stakeholders. The first category of foundations that will receive the benefits (any person categorized as children buddy, also the children themselves) had participants from WVI AP Urban Jakarta, Yayasan Hidung Merah (Red Nose Foundation), Yayasan Bandungwangi, Yayasan Bina Matahari Bangsa (YBMB), Kelas Jurnalis Cilik, and Froum Anak Kelurahan Pademangan, Forum Anak Keluruahan Cipinang Besar Utara, and Forum Anak Kelurahan Cipinang Besar Selatan.

As for the second category of artists and art groups, the participants were Jose Rizal Manua, Eddie Karsito, Studio Hanafi, Padepokan Ciliwung Condet, Rumah Film Kalamtara, Sanggar Anak Akar, Kalanari Theater Movement, and Yayasan Peduli Musik Anak. To have a complete set of data, the third category of participants were needed, namely the stakeholders which were representatives of Wahid Foundation, Koko Jali, Generasi Literasi, Koalisis Seni Indonesia, Gita Hastarika, Yayasan Kayan, Wahana Visi Indonesia, and Program Harmoni USAID.

All the data collection process was done online and in interview form. This entailed  interviewing and having a discussion activity with children, using methods such as problem tree analysis.
