MOBILE ARTS FOR PEACE (MAP) RESEARCH PROJECT: PRACTICE AND RESEARCH

 “.....to explore of how far arts (music, dance, theatre,movie, and any other art forms) can be a medium for dialogues for people from different cultures and ages for a peaceful society...”

 

MAP is both a practice and a research (practice-as-research) initiated by Professor Ananda Breed from the University of Lincold in Rwanda. MAP is funded by Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) through Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). MAP adalah praktik sekaligus penelitian (practice-as-research) yang diprakarsai oleh Professor Ananda Breed dari University of Lincoln di Rwanda. MAP didanai oleh Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) melalui Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).

 

The seed for Mobile Arts for Peace (MAP) research project was sowed in 2018, in the East province of Rwanda. In the beginning, MAP worked with 5 schools, 10 cultural organizations, 25 educators, and 10 youngsters to design and deliver the MAP methodology. In 2019, MAP has 25 more schools on board, also 100 educators, and 40 facilitators who could train about 250 additional educators and 2000 youngsters. As written in its name, MAP research project:: “Informing the National Curriculum and Youth Policy for Peacebuilding in Kyrgyzstan, Rwanda, Indonesia and Nepal”, MAP research projects are conducted in 4 countries Kyrgyzstan, Rwanda, Indonesia,and Nepal.

 

MAP’s aims to increase children’s and youngsters’ participation in decision making and to give input to the national curriculum and policies related to their fate in every partner country. This aim is achieved through local foundations who serve their community, working together with art workers, children/youngsters, and accompanying adults or educators, social foundations and any policy making organizations to answer every need that arises, to develop curriculum and policies and their implementation. 

Unika Atma Jaya, Jakarta, has been trusted to be the partner for MAP research project in Indonesia, through its  Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (LPPM) and Facultyof Psychology. This collaboration started in July 1, 2020, and will end in 4 years. As preliminary, Prof. Breed and her research associates from Nepal, Rwanda, and Kyrgyzstan went for a scoping visit to Unika Atma Jaya in December 2019. Their visit was supported by UNESCO, Jakarta Office, Lembaga Perlindungan Anak (LPA) DKI Jakarta Province, and also Yayasan Anak Budaya Indonesia (YABI).

 

Dr. Harla Sara Octarra, M.Sc. (a guest lecturer and a research partner of Faculty of Psychology) is the coordinator for MAP research project in Indonesia. Other lecturers from the Faculty of Psychology join her for the research team::  Dr. Yohana Ratrin Hestyanti,  Dr. Zahrasari Lukita Dewi, M.Si.,  Dr. Agustina Hendriati, M.Sc.,  Drs. Danny Irawan Yatim, M.A., Ed.M.,  Reneta Kristiani, M.Psi,  Nicolas Indra Nurpatria, M.Si,  Nilla Sari Dewi Iustitiani, M.Si.,and Indrawati Setya Wibawa, S.Psi.

 

This research project also has 3 student from the Faculty of Psychology of 2017 as research assistants: Nadya Lenny Agnes Pangemanan, Aurora Eursza Mayori,and Kania Larasati. 2 other organizations are also asked to partner with Unika Atma Jaya for the implementation of MAP, namely:  Lembaga Perlindungan Anak (LPA) DKI Jakarta province Provinsi DKI Jakarta and  Yayasan Anak Budaya Indonesia (YABI).
