Class and Workshop by Prof. Coenen in Faculty of Psychology Unika Atma Jaya

Faculty of Psychology Unika Atma Jaya got a special guest from the Netherlands from 14 August to 24 August 2017. Prof. Dr. Antonius M. L. Coenen from Donders Center for Cognition, Department of Biological Psychology, Radboud University Nijmegen came to give lectures in neuropsychology class and workshops for two days. The neuropsychology class is a class for clinical psychology concentration which are taken by the 7th semester students. The lectures are given seven times meeting with discussion about cerebral vascular accident, motor and cognitive disorder, pain, sleep, attention, and drugs.

 

The workshop was held on August 16, 2017 and August 23, 2017 at the Bangunan Kuliah Sementara’s Hall (BKS). This workshop also invited students, lecturers, and practitioners from outside Atma Jaya. The first workshop was about Sleeping and Dreaming, Prof. Coenen explained the theories why humans need sleep, the measurements brain waves while sleeping, astral body phenomena, REM sleep phases, dreams and psychoanalysis, and brain processes while dreaming. The theme of the second workshop was Neurodegenerative Brain Disorder. It discussed brain and nerve related disorders such as stroke, dementia, Alzheimer, Korsakoff syndrome, normal pressure hydrocephalus, huntington‘s disease, parkinson, Tourette syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, and sclerosis.

 

The event, in collaboration with Erasmus+,received a good enthusiasm by the workshop participants. Dr. Yohana Ratrin Hestyanti, Psikolog as the head of undergraduate program stated in the closing that the workshop activity was expected to be carried out routinely every year. The activity was expected to increase students, practitioners, and academia’s interest to study and explore the field of neuropsychology.
