Atma Jaya Set to Provide Medical Workers for East Indonesia

14 Year of Consistency to Build Health Sector dan Provide Doctors under the Social Responsible and Care

 

Jakarta, March 9th, 2020 - Rector of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (AJCUI), Dr. Agustinus Prasetyantoko, companied with seven East Indonesia students, signed an agreement letter related to the scholarship program namely Doctors for East Indonesia, or Dokter untuk Indonesia Timur (DUIT) at the Titik Irawati Notary Office, Central Jakarta, Saturday (7/3/2020).

 

The scholarship purposely aims to facilitate East Indonesian highschool leavers to study at the School of Medicine and Health Science, AJCUI. "This program meant so students from eastern Indonesia could have access to study at the School of Medicine and Health Science Atma Jaya," said Prasetyantoko.

"After completed their study, these students are expected to work and help to improve the health sector in East Indonesia, or their home city, which is Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara, and Papua. This is a noble duty for you, and this spirit should linger on," he adds.

 

Also presents with Rector, Pastor Kees Bertens, M.S.C., initiator and a person in charge of the scholarship program, along with Fransisca Indah Tri Utami, S.T., Head of Scholarship Office.

 

Seven DUIT Scholarship Awardee are Gregorius Surya Justitia Widodo from Abepura, Carl Ray Kalla Sombuk from Manokwari, Maria Gabriela Kedang from Lembata, Mela Dina Marie Bame from Sorong, Maria Anggi Sylvani from Marauke, and Maria Rosa Mistika Ole from Sumba.

 

DUIT Scholarship Agreement Letter Signing Situation

 

"This scholarship helped my friends and me from Eastern Indonesia, particularly to fulfill our dream to be as a doctor. And this will be a noble purpose for us because when we graduate, we will give public health services in our city," said Maria Anggi Sylvani.

 

Widodo, a father of one of the recipients, said that DUIT scholarship actualizes his son‘s dream to study at the best private university. He wishes this program could help to fill the medical doctor shortage in Eastern Indonesia.

 

"I was greatly helped because my son was able to study at Atma Jaya Catholic University. As we know that Atma Jaya is the best private university, and most doctors in Jayapura are its alumni. By this scholarship program, the number of doctors in eastern Indonesia can fully cover," said Widodo.

 

As is known to us, the DUIT Scholarship Program provides full scholarships for Eastern Indonesia students to receive a professional medical education. The main initiative of this program is to meet the shortage of large numbers of medical personnel.

 

Atma Jaya, together with Misereor (German Organization for Development Cooperation), initiate this funding program since 2006. Today, this program has consistently committed to supporting the work in the field of health, which successfully financing up to 63 east Indonesian students until now.
