Abstract

The use of self-report tests sometimes are disadvantaged with human limitation in describing things inside his/her mind. It is partly not only because of human incapability to make introspections about themselves, but also sometimes social desirability factors are contributtable to make such response biases. To minimalize this problem, recent researchers and psychologist need a new measurement procedure that are unnecessary to ask directly about the psychological attribute being measured to the partisipant. There is an implicit measures that already exsisted for the past fifteen years, The Implicit Association Test (IAT). In Indonesia, there were two researches that use IAT procedure, but we are interested to investigate further about the psychometric properties of Indonesia Implicit Self-Esteem Test (IISeT). This instrument was developed as a new step to provide a new implicit measurement tools to measure implicit self-esteem construct. IISeT was being validated using correlation with other test procedure, which use Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale as the comparatory test. In this investigation, we are examining the validity of IISeT using convergent-discriminant procedure. Pearson Product Moment Correlation with Personalized Implicit Self-Esteem Test (PISeT) is presented as the evidence of convergent validation, meanwhile correlation with Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale is presented as the evidence of discriminant validation. This research conducted in Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia and involving as many as 90 participants. The investigation were conducted in two phases. The first phase of data collection were intended to validity examination, and the second phases for the reliability examination. Convergent and discriminant validation procedure reveal that IISeT valid to measure implicit self-esteem. Test-retest reliability also showed the evidence that IISeT consistent in measuring implicit self-esteem. Beside the main product, this investigation also showed that there were no evidence of significant differences in explicit and implicit scores between different order of tests administration.
