Punctured convolutional codes are known to have good error-protection capability, with the advantages of lower bandwidth consumption and decoding complexity compared to non-punctured convolutional codes. The search of punctured convolutional codes with good performance can be simplified by using equivalent convolutional codes to represent the punctured codes in their non-punctured forms. In this research new punctured convolutional codes are generated by puncturing a best-known code which rate is 1/3. The puncturing process will slightly degrade the code performance, yet the trade-offs of bandwidth efficiency and low decoding complexity makes punctured convolutional codes a worthy option for numerous telecommunication systems.
