The transfer of Indonesian Migrant Workers (TKI) to other countries has more or less contributed to the improvement in the Indonesian economy as these workers are said to have remitted much income for the country. However, seeing the regulation in effect at present, the migrant workers tend to receive less attention and legal protection, rendering them more vulnerable to many issues, such as fraud during the recruitment process, forced confinement in shelters, identity fraud, violence or even death at workplace. These problems have seemingly been recurring without any viable solutions. The new regulation in effect, along with its implementation, seems not to provide adequate protection for the migrant workers or any prospective workers. In comparison with the previous regulation, the previous regulation actually provided more protection for the migrant workers.
