Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia
(UAJ) is a leading private university in Indonesia, established on June 1,
1960, with three main campuses in Semanggi, Pluit, and BSD. UAJ's vision is to
become a leading university at the national and international levels through a
combination of Christian faith, science, technology, and Indonesian culture.
This commitment is realized through the Tri Dharma (Three Pillars of
Excellence) of quality education, innovative research, and community service,
reinforced by various international recognitions in the fields of employability
and sustainability.
Through Erasmus+ ECoGREEN Work Package 4,
UAJ is developing sustainability research using the Whole School Approach
(WSA). Topics studied include: strengthening the sustainability vision, campus
environment, curriculum, pedagogy and didactics, research, community service,
professional development, and building management and operations. The WSA
approach is implemented systematically through the cycle of Sensitizing – Plan
– Do – Check – Act – Dialogue, ensuring integrated and sustainable
sustainability innovation.
ECoGREEN research is conducted across all
consortium members. The research was conducted for each campus participating in
the Erasmus+ECoGREEN Consortium program, which comprises six national
universities: Parahyangan Catholic University/UNPAR (as PIC), SCU, UBAYA,
TRISAKTI, UAJ, and UNWAHAS; and two international universities: Wageningen
University & Research (WUR – Netherlands) and UHasselt University
(Belgium). This cross-university collaboration emphasizes global knowledge
exchange, the development of innovative methods, and the creation of a tangible
impact on sustainability in Indonesia.
Data collection was conducted primarily
through qualitative methods such as Focus Group Interviews (FGI) with resource
persons from university leadership, the Faculty of Economics and Business
(FEB), the Faculty of Law (FH), the Institute for Community Empowerment (LPPM),
lecturers, students, and external partners, particularly MSMEs. The interview
results were coded and thematically processed to produce an integrative
framework applicable to green campus development.
In line with the Laudato Si' spirit,
various initiatives have been implemented: the use of smart classrooms, the
provision of water fountains, tumbler appeals, energy savings with LEDs and
inverter ACs, the automation of academic services through the MyAtma
application, and the integration of sustainability courses across study
programs. These programs demonstrate that sustainability is not just a concept,
but a real practice on the UAJ campus.
Through ECoGREEN Research, UAJ is committed
to continuously encouraging innovation and motivating the entire academic
community to create sustainable solutions for the university and society. With
strong national and international collaboration, Atma Jaya is poised to become
a leader in the sustainability movement in higher education.
