Unika Atma Jaya Firmly Commits to Preparing Professional Teachers Through Substantive Tests

Jakarta, November 12–15, 2025 — Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (Unika), through the Professional Teacher Education (PPG) Department Program, Faculty of Education and Languages, reaffirmed its commitment to preparing prospective professional teachers by holding a Substantive Test as part of the PPG student selection process. The four-day event was attended by 489 participants from various educational backgrounds.
The Substantive Test is a crucial stage in the PPG selection process because it is designed to measure prospective teachers' academic, pedagogical, and professional competencies. Through this test, participants are tested on their readiness before entering the PPG program, which requires mastery of material, critical thinking skills, and teaching abilities.
"The implementation of this Substantive Test is one of our efforts to ensure that prospective PPG students possess academic abilities that meet standards. This selection is not merely a formality, but a crucial foundation for their success in the Professional Teacher Education Program," said Paulina Chandrasari Kusuma, M.Hum., Head of the PPG Study Program at the Faculty of Education and Languages.
Yanti, Ph.D., Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education and Languages, added that the test proceeded smoothly and orderly, despite the relatively short preparation period. "The participants appeared enthusiastic and well-prepared. By accommodating 489 participants over three days of testing, Atma Jaya demonstrated its readiness to support the selection of qualified prospective professional teachers. The committee and technical team worked diligently to ensure the smooth running of all sessions. We hope this activity can foster the development of prospective educators with integrity, competence, and readiness to contribute to the advancement of education in Indonesia."
Throughout the test, the committee implemented an orderly selection system with strict supervision to maintain the integrity of the process. Technical and administrative support was also provided to ensure each session ran smoothly, especially considering the large number of participants.
In addition to being a selection process, this activity also provided valuable learning for the committee and participants. The committee gained experience in managing a large-scale selection process, while participants were able to assess their readiness to meet the demands of the PPG program. PPG Department Program of FPB hopes that next year's implementation will be more efficient and accountable, and will be able to recruit prospective students who are ready to participate in intensive professional learning.
By holding this Substantive Test, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (Unika Atma Jaya) once again demonstrated its commitment to developing prospective educators who are competent, professional, and responsive to the challenges of modern education. Through a structured and high-quality selection process, Atma Jaya continues to contribute to efforts to improve the quality of educators in Indonesia.
