Atma Jaya was established on June 1, 1960, with a steadfast commitment to serve God and the Nation. The pioneers and founders deeply understood the significant role of higher education in shaping the future generations, not only in improving their lives but also in contributing to the nation. This commitment extended beyond establishing a high-quality campus; it also aimed to provide quality education to as many young Indonesians as possible, including those who were financially disadvantaged.
Frans Seda, the late founding father of Unika Atma Jaya, dreamed of a future where no one in Indonesia would be deprived of higher education. On several occasions, he stated, "One may not attend Atma Jaya due to lack of intellectual capability, but one should not refrain from attending Atma Jaya due to financial issues." Therefore, since 1972, Unika Atma Jaya has been offering various forms of scholarships, even before the completion of its first campus in Semanggi. The spirit of dedication triumphed over material limitations. The initiation of these scholarships was historic, as it involved the wives of the pioneers and founders of Atma Jaya who were part of the Scholarship Committee, participating in fundraising, selection processes, and fund distribution.
As Unika Atma Jaya evolved, the scholarships, initially managed by the Scholarship Committee, were organized under the Atma Jaya Scholarship Office in 2015. Through this office, all activities related to fundraising, fund distribution, and mentoring for scholarship recipients, including alumni communities, became more accessible and professionally managed.
