DOCTORAL DEGREE PROGRAM

ACCREDITATION

The Applied English Linguistics doctoral program is accredited by the Ministry of Education with A grade valid from 18 April 2015 until 18 April 2020. (download here).

 

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have either:

(A) a Master’s degree in (i) English linguistics, or (ii) Linguistics, with a Bachelor’s degree in English, or English education, or (iii) English education with a Bachelor’s degree in English education; or

(B) an MA/MSc degree in ESL/TEFL/ linguistics from a recognized university overseas.

For both categories (A) and (B), the candidate’s GPA must be at least 3.0 with a minimal TOEFL score of 550. Candidates must also pass entrance exams.

 

ENROLLMENT

The program only accepts students in the Ganjil semester, which starts in August and ends in December. Prospective students can request application forms at any time throughout the year. Applications are normally accepted from February to June.

 

CLASS MEETINGS

Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 4.30 p.m. until 7.15 p.m. Fridays are reserved for make-up classes and other activities.

 

TUITION AND FEES

The tuition and fees for the academic year 2013/2014 are IDR 39.500.000 for the first four semesters’ course work. The above figure is to be used as a guideline, as adjustments may have to be made in subsequent years.

 

DEGREE AWARDED

Graduates are awarded the degree of Doktor Humaniora (Ph.D.) in Applied English Linguistics.

 

DOCTORAL DEGREE CURRICULUM

The curriculum is designed in such a way that students with a master’s degree will further their knowledge in the field of Applied English Linguistics by taking ten additional courses amounting to thirty credits, plus twenty-five credits in Dissertation Writing, amounting to a total of 55 credits. Students are expected to complete the program, including their dissertation, in two to five years.

Students must have passed ENG 823 to be eligible to take ENG 900.

 

To ensure that students have uniform and up-to-date background knowledge, certain first year students (i.e., those considered not to have enough background in linguistics) are required to take certain courses from the Master’s Degree program.
